About our families

15 families took part in interviews. This involved 18 parents/carers and 19 children.

Our families live across 7 Local Authority areas, living in both urban and rural/island communities. They live in the following quintiles in terms of the Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation: 8 families live in SIMD quintiles 1/2, 2 in SIMD quintile 3 and 5 families in quintiles 4/5.

In terms of our participating parents 8 are single/lone parents. Some of our families have children that live with disabilities or chronic health conditions, as do some of our parents.

Participating parents and carers ranged in age from their 20s to their 40s. Most parents (15) describe their ethnicity as White (Scottish, British, Irish, European, Traveller Gypsy, Roma, Other) while 3 describe their ethnicity as Arab (Scottish, British, North African, Middle Eastern, Other).

In terms of our 19 participating children there were 9 girls and 10 boys. The youngest was 2 years old and the oldest 7. In terms of the ethnicity of children, parents report that 14 children are White (Scottish, British, Irish, European, Traveller Gypsy, Roma, Other); 2 are Arab (Scottish, British, North African, Middle Eastern, Other) and one child is identified by their parent as ‘Other ethnicity’ to the options provided.
